The formal acoustical test results are now in….

As a comparison: (with Gypsum Board)
[15mm drywall]+[metal stud & batts]+[15mm drywall]=STC43

magnesiacore walls
[9mm]+[metal stud & batts]+[9mm]=STC48
[9mm/goo/9mm]+[wood stud & batts]+[15mm drywall]=STC50
[9mm/goo/9mm]+[wood stud & batts]+[9mm/goo/9mm]=STC55
[9mm/goo/9mm]+[metal stud & batts]+[9mm]=STC55
[9mm/goo/9mm]+[metal stud & batts]+[9mm/goo/9mm]=STC60

Notes * STC 50 is typical code requirement for hotels, motels, apartments, condominiums, monasteries and convents blocking approx 50 dB… loud speech cannot be understood. STC 60 is typically specified for highly sensitive areas blocking around 60 db off sound volumes… loud speech cannot be heard….

Using 12mm or 15mm magnesiacore in these applications will result in much higher sound control. These are standard installation design tests and each had screws going from the front face through the second and to the stud which created shortcircuits. Using staples between the layers of magnesiacore and having only the second or back sheet fastened directly to the stud will reduce these shortcircuits improving the acoustical performance even more.

Product sounds great. I’d like to see and touch the panel.
